Environmental Policy

Reykjavikexpress is committed to ensuring that Iceland’s natural environment remains as pure and unspoiled as possible. Our policy is to offer high-quality service with the newest and safest vehicles available while ensuring that environmental and safety issues are at the forefront of all our operations. We aim to be leaders in this field, seeking collaboration with partners who prioritize environmental issues and have a clear strategy in this regard.

We implement this policy through the following objectives:

Employees are aware of and educated about the company’s environmental policy and environmental issues in general.

We conduct annual training sessions covering all environmental aspects relevant to our operations.

We strive to provide the newest and most environmentally friendly coaches available. Today, nearly all our vehicles meet the EURO III emission standard applicable in Europe. The newest vehicles comply with the even stricter Euro IV and V standards.

Most of our coaches are equipped with water heating (oil heaters), allowing the engine to be warmed up to 80°C before starting. This ensures a hot start, significantly reducing emissions. The heating system is integrated with the vehicle’s radiator system, enabling cabin heating without the engine running. We strongly emphasize the use of this heating system to minimize idling.

We strive to minimize waste production as much as possible and to sort and recycle all items where feasible.

Our annual environmental training includes both theoretical and practical education on eco-driving techniques for our drivers. Proper driving habits are essential for minimizing vehicle emissions and fuel consumption.

We emphasize cleanliness and setting an example for others. Our vehicles are well-maintained, clean, and tidy, and oil and filter changes are performed on schedule to limit emissions.

All used oil is collected in an underground tank at our workshop. This tank is regularly emptied, and the oil is reused as much as possible. We take every measure to prevent pollutants from entering drains, and in case of an accident, we have three oil traps at our workshop drains.

We prioritize the use of environmentally friendly products. We aim to purchase goods and services from suppliers who have a clear and preferably certified environmental policy.

Environmental issues concern us all. There is never enough being done, and too many aspects of our society harm nature and, consequently, us. We continually review these matters as it is our duty to remain aware and open to all ways to reduce pollution. We closely monitor environmental developments and remain vigilant in this area.

Goals

The environmental policy will be updated and reviewed annually.

We will conduct an annual training session on environmental, safety, and quality management issues, including eco-driving and first aid.

The drivers’ quality handbook will be reviewed annually. This handbook is available in all company vehicles and outlines the company’s policies on environmental, safety, and quality issues.

Special attention will be given to the correct use of oil heaters to minimize idling and reduce emissions.

We will continue using only environmentally friendly cleaning products and microfiber cloths in all company vehicles and facilities, including workshops and offices.

We will purchase at least three new buses equipped with Euro V engines, the strictest emission standard currently in effect in Europe.
